I have now migrated my site from a poorly written php site, to a completely static site generated by Jekyll.
When you get into it, it’s way simpler than my old setup, but getting there was a long journey. Jekyll’s wiki/how-to could be better for first timers. I felt like the guide was written for other Jekyll users, rather than newcomers - and debugging Maruku (markdown) is next to impossible.
There are still some things I haven’t figured out how to get working, but they will eventually come - and once I figure it out, I will migrate from Wordpress to Jekyll on another site I’m hosting. I’ll do anything to get rid of PHP.
Take care.
